Building Better Lives

Firvale Community Hub run the building better lives project which is aimed at men and women over 50. We currently run keep fit sessions for both men and women over the age of 50. We also run health information sessions.

Some of the topics we cover are around healthy hearts, healthy kidneys, mental health, stress and anxiety, managing your blood pressure, managing your diabetes, benefit advice sessions and cancer awareness sessions.

We also have speakers and health professionals come and give out information to the groups which they thoroughly enjoy. We provide lunch when we run the sessions.
Many people in the group have made many social connections and friends through the group and have met other people of a similar age and background. Many of the friendships made have continued out of the group.

Many individuals have reported an improvement in their mental health and well being since they have started attending the sessions. We have also noticed that individuals are becoming more socially independent.

We also have trips that we run during the summer. In the coming weeks we will be accessing the health and well-being suite and encouraging the service users to access the health activities and the equipment in the gym. We will have dedicated sessions running for over 50’s.

If you know anyone that would like to attend the sessions or would like to attend yourself then please visit our centre or call Saima Ahmed on 0114 2619130

Yorkshire Sculpture Park -

Firvale Community Hub organised a trip for the ladies that attend the over 50's group and also the health and well being group.

The ladies enjoyed a day out to Yorkshire sculpture Park. Where they enjoyed the beautiful weather, outdoor walking, seeing the amazing sculptures and of course a 3 course picnic amongst friends.

None of the women had been to the sculpture park before and found it very interesting and entertaining!

Womens EID Party

Firvale community Hub hosted an Eid party for the women that attend the Muslim Elders project and the Health and Nutrition Project.

The women came together to enjoy an afternoon of music, henna and of course yummy food.

It was a good opportunity for women from our different projects to meet and interact with each other and have a fun filled afternoon.

For more information on the Elders project please contact Saima Ahmed and for the Health and Nutrition project please contact Rhona Sanders.
