Community Litter Picks and Clean Ups

Firvale Community Hub has monthly litter picks taking place and In addition to this we have started the litter innovation project with a group of volunteers dedicated at educating households in the area, by door to door nocking and talking about how to dispose litter and the importance of keeping the area we live in clean.

Testimonial from Panni Loh:

On Saturday October 13th it was a pleasant surprise to drive along Owler Lane in Pagehall and see that a lot of the litter from a few months ago had gone from the main road. Much of this is due to the united effort of the Firvale Community Hub, members of the Cohesion Sheffield Network, who joined with the Sheffield Roma Network to host a series of community litter picks to build community harmony and create a cleaner Page Hall.

Cohesion Sheffield went along to support the community litter pick event and chat to local people whilst picking up litter with a litter grabber provided by Sheffield City Council.

The plan was to tackle the residential streets behind Firvale Community Hub. Local community were also joined by Sheffield City Council Community Development Workers and uniformed Street Wardens recently appointed through the Sheffield Community Investment Deal, funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government. Local children witnessed what was going on, joined in picking litter, enjoyed the children’s activities and watched a community safety video translated into area relevant languages.
